Aluminum silicate ceramic fiber blanket, also known as ceramic fiber blanket, has thermal conductivity which is close to air. It is because the structure of aluminum silicate ceramic fiber blanket is solid aluminum fiber and air mixed.The porosity is as high as 90% or more, and many low thermal conductivity air is filled in the pores. This destroys the continuous network structure of solid molecules, and then obtain excellent thermal insulation. And the smaller the pore diameter, the more the number of pores which are sealed by the solid fiber along the direction of the heat flow, the better the thermal insulation performance of the aluminum silicate ceramic fiber blanket.
Factors that affect thermal conductivity of aluminum silicate ceramic fiber blanket are as follow: Temperature, density, shot content, fiber diameter, fiber moisture, application environment, fiber direction.
Because the structure of aluminum silicate ceramic fiber blanket is different from traditional refractory fire brick and insulation brick. So its thermal conductivity is also different from them. The heat transfer in the aluminum silicate ceramic fiber blanket is not simply the heat transfer in the solid fiber, but also the heat transfer in the air, the convective heat transfer of the air inside pores and the radiation heat transfer between the walls of the pores.
